Ariana Grande vowed to keep it âlow-keyâ and not make it about herself in her return as host of âSaturday Night Liveâ this weekend.
But it didnât take long for the âWickedâ star to break her promise as she did her impression of Britney Spears in a musical opening monologue.
âIâm not gonna do my impressions, no Britney Spears today, if you ask me again, Iâll say the same thing â oh no, baby, baby,â sang Grande as she imitated the singerâs hit song, â...Baby One More Time.â
She also broke out impressions of Miley Cyrus and Gwen Stefani.
âIâm not gonna do Gwen Stefani âcause â donât think, promise Iâm not singinâ, any new impressions, I wonât sing because it hurts,â she belted in the tune of No Doubtâs âDonât Speak.â
Grande, who plays Glinda in the upcoming Jon M. Chu-directed âWicked,â said that her latest acting role is âawesomeâ because she is âsuch a theater kid.â
âItâs every theater kidâs dream to either play Glinda or Elphaba. Well, itâs every theater kidâs dream to lose their virginity, but their second dream is, of course, to be in âWicked,ââ Grande quipped.
She also brought up doing double duty as host and musical guest on âSNLâ back in March 2016.
âAnd we were right on the verge of electing our first female president, so I guess second timeâs a charm,â Grande said.
The singer was also joined by âSNLâ cast member and her âWickedâ co-star, Bowen Yang, who plays Pfannee in the film adaptation of the musical.
